As climate change begins to intensify, with people across our country and the world feeling its effects in significant ways in recent years, the realities of climate-related stress, anxiety, and grief are becoming more and more pressing for many individuals. Cognizant of the growing numbers of people dealing with climate emotions, the Office of Sustainability has sought to provide outlets for students who are experiencing intense climate emotions. One such effort was the Wintersession workshop titled “Climate Emotions, Environmental Justice, and Student Mentorship.”
As Princeton’s students, faculty, and staff geared up for the start of classes and returning to campus during this January’s Wintersession, a group of thirty intrepid learners took advantage of this time off to learn more about the topic of Environmental Justice. The workshop was an effort sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, spearheaded by undergraduate students Kim Tran ‘24 and Mayu Takeuchi ‘23, as well as alumna Priscilla Hayes ‘75, a former member of the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance, and Lisa Nicolaison, the Office of Sustainability’s campus engagement programs and communications coordinator.

The Princeton University Ecology Representative Program (EcoReps) was founded in 2004 and is hosted by the Office of Sustainability. The mission of the EcoReps is to promote the integration of sustainability into life on campus in alignment with the Sustainability Action Plan.
