Campus as Lab: The Journey from Old School Bus to Energy-Efficient Living Space

Feb. 2, 2020

For his senior thesis, Nico Viglucci '19 retrofitted an old school bus into a sustainable living space to address cost and energy efficiency concerns within the residential housing sector. Through the implementation of a dynamic interior arrangement and an experimental heating and cooling system, the project demonstrated that living spaces can achieve low carbon and spatial footprints without sacrificing comfort.

This video documents the project's many challenges and lessons-learned over the nearly two and half year-long process. The project was partially funded by the High Meadows Foundation Sustainability Fund.

The Campus as Lab (CAL) program facilitates the use of Princeton's campus for sustainability research and experiential learning. Explorations into the social, physical, and operational dimensions of Princeton can generate new knowledge to help to advance sustainability on campus, in our broader community, and around the world.
