Students United for a Responsible Global Environment (SURGE)

In 2006, Dennis Markatos-Soriano '08 and Tetse Ukueberuwa '08 founded Students United for a Responsible Global Environment (SURGE). The club's mission is to combat global climate change by catalyzing the transition from awareness to action, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the Princeton community, and engaging as active citizens to promote changes in policy and legislation.

SURGE organizes Pull the Plug, a campaign to get everyone to unplug their appliances before winter break, and works with Greening Princeton and other green groups to put together Earth Day every year. The organization has also hosted the former governor of New Jersey, has worked with the Sierra Club, 350.org and Oceana. SURGE also hosts Princeton University’s sustainable investing initiative.

SURGE is recognized as a student organization by the Pace Center for Civic Engagement
