Professional role and organization:
Senior Chemical Engineer, Eastman Chemical Company
How do you define sustainability?
A creative challenge and opportunity for innovation and thoughtful planning.
How does your work relate to sustainability and how did Princeton prepare you for your role?
For Eastman I do environmental life cycle assessment and support Eastman's participation in the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Princeton offered me a great exposure to many environmental issues and some bleeding-edge thinkers on these topics. Also, involvement with the group Greening Princeton gave me a lot of professional skills that are hard to learn in a classroom. Then, of course, there was the education and the credentials.
What advice would you offer to students seeking to focus on or incorporate sustainability in their careers?
You can do sustainability in almost any job function. You don't need 'environment' in your job title!
